2,200 hectares of turquoise water
Lake Sainte-Croix, located between the Var and Alpes-de-Haute-Provence departments, is an artificial reservoir created in 1973 following the construction of the Sainte-Croix Dam on the Verdon River. With an area of approximately 22 km², it is the fourth-largest lake in metropolitan France.
The lake is renowned for its turquoise waters and spectacular scenery, particularly the Verdon Gorges, which open up along its northern shore. Boating is regulated here: only electric motorboats and sailboats are permitted, ensuring a peaceful and unspoiled atmosphere.
The lake’s shores are home to several picturesque villages, such as Les Salles-sur-Verdon, Sainte-Croix-du-Verdon, and Bauduen, offering visitors ideal starting points for exploring the lake.
