Easy to manoeuvre and stable, these boats are perfect for a family outing, even with young children. Even the youngest children can have a go at steering under adult supervision.

The attractions of the area around Lake Sainte-Croix

Beyond water-based activities, the Lake Sainte-Croix region is brimming with natural, cultural and gastronomic treasures that are well worth discovering.

Picturesque villages and cultural heritage

The lake’s shores are lined with charming Provençal villages, each offering a unique atmosphere and exceptional views.

  • Sainte-Croix-du-Verdon: Perched on a hill overlooking the lake, this village boasts narrow, flower-lined streets, local artisans and breathtaking views of the turquoise waters.

  • Bauduen: Situated on the lakeshore, this medieval village charms visitors with its authenticity, stone houses and picturesque harbour. Visitors can stroll along the quays, relax on the shaded terraces and visit the 12th-century Saint-Pierre church.

  • Moustiers-Sainte-Marie: Listed as one of the most beautiful villages in France, Moustiers is renowned for its traditional earthenware and its star suspended between two cliffs. The steep alleyways lead to the Notre-Dame de Beauvoir chapel, offering a panoramic view of the village and the surrounding area.

Outdoor activities and nature exploration

The region is a true paradise for lovers of outdoor activities. As well as boating on the lake, there are numerous walking routes allowing you to explore the varied landscapes of the Verdon Regional Nature Park.

The Verdon Gorges, considered to be Europe’s largest canyon, offer spectacular trails such as the Blanc-Martel trail or the Imbut trail, which wind their way between vertiginous cliffs and emerald rivers. Climbing enthusiasts will also find numerous routes suitable for all levels.

For a more peaceful experience, the nearby Valensole plateau is famous for its vast fields of lavender, which bloom in June and July, offering an unforgettable visual and olfactory spectacle.

Gastronomy and local produce

Provence is renowned for its delicious cuisine and local produce. In the villages around Lake Sainte-Croix, the local markets are brimming with regional specialities such as lavender honey, olive oil, goat’s cheese and wines from the Var hillsides.

Restaurants and inns serve traditional dishes such as Provençal daube, pistou soup and tapenade, which can be enjoyed on a terrace overlooking the lake or the surrounding mountains.

Practical tips for a successful trip

  • Plan ahead: During peak season, demand for water sports and accommodation is high. It is therefore advisable to book your boat hire, accommodation and other activities in advance.

  • Respect the environment: The Verdon Regional Nature Park is a protected area. Please respect the local flora and fauna, do not leave any litter behind, and use only the authorised swimming areas.

  • Be prepared for the weather: Conditions can change quickly in the region. Make sure you have suitable clothing, sun cream and plenty of water.

By following these recommendations, your visit to Lake Sainte-Croix and the surrounding area will be an unforgettable experience, combining exploration, relaxation and wonder in the heart of Provence.
